About the Self-Determination Program (SDP)

1
What is the Self-Determination Program (SDP)?
The Self-Determination Program is a statewide option for individuals served by California Regional Centers. It allows participants to have more choice and control over the services and supports they need to live the life they want. With an individualized budget and a person-centered plan, you design a program that works for you.
2
Do I have to use an Independent Facilitator?
No, using an Independent Facilitator is optional, but many families find it extremely helpful. The process can be complex, and an IF can make things smoother, clearer, and more personalized.
3
How much does an Independent Facilitator cost?
There is no out-of pocket cost for the family- the cost of an Independent Facilitator is covered within your Self-Determination budget. We can help you include these supports in your spending plan so there are no out-of-pocket costs for families.

What’s the difference between SDP and traditional Regional Center services?
In the traditional system, services are arranged and authorized by the Regional Center. Under SDP, you have the power to choose who provides your services, how they’re delivered, and when. It’s all about flexibility and self-direction.
